PERIYAR OR THEKKADY

Set in the heart of the Cardamom Hills of Kerala is the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve. The park has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary and herds of elephant, deer, wild dogs, baking deer, mouse deer, sambhar, gaur and wild bears can be observed from the boats that cruise around the lake. The very best spices such as cardamom, pepper, cinnamon and cloves can be purchased from the local spice market at Kumily village. Tourists curious about these iconic spices can also visit a spice plantation in the area.
