Head south to Plymouth, where the Pilgrims landed nearly 400 years ago and founded the first permanent settlement in New England. See famous Plymouth Rock. Depart this morning for Boston. After a transfer to the airport for guests who have homebound flights, the motorcoach continues downtown to the Sheraton Boston Hotel, where the tour ends. Please schedule flights from Boston’s Logan International Airport after 2 pm.

This morning’s sightseeing features many of Washington DC’s famous landmarks, including the LINCOLN MEMORIAL, and the VIETNAM and KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIALS, with stops for photos at the White House and Capitol Hill. This afternoon, we visit MOUNT VERNON, the restored home of George Washington. Tour the house and gardens, and visit the museums. Try our optional dinner tonight at one of Washington’s favorite restaurants, followed by an illumination tour of the monuments.
Today, travel south to Fredericksburg, known for its role in both the American Revolution and the Civil War. Here, enjoy an orientation tour and free time to explore the historic artifacts. Next, continue to YORKTOWN HISTORICAL BATTLEFIELD PARK, where the British surrendered to Washington’s troops in 1781, bringing an end to the American Revolution. Continue to Williamsburg for a 2-night stay.
This morning, enjoy an exclusive PERFORMANCE from Sylvia Tabb-Lee, a professional historian. Visit the nearby JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT for a guided tour to learn about the first permanent English settlement in the New World. Then, enter COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG’S HISTORIC AREA, where costumed villagers add to the authenticity. Stroll down its quaint streets, browse through the historic trade shops, and see the Public Gaol. First stop is Richmond, Virginia’s capital and once the capital of the Confederacy. Visit ST. JOHN’S CHURCH, where Patrick Henry proclaimed, “Give me liberty or give me death!” Next, MONTICELLO, Thomas Jefferson’s estate with its beautiful gardens and imposing mansion designed by Jefferson himself. Spend the evening in Staunton, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Today, journey to beautiful SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK, home to spectacular vistas and a haven to wildlife. Enjoy photo stops and panoramic vistas from Skyline Drive. During your free time today, why not stroll one of the many hiking trails or just sit back and enjoy the scenery?
Today, follow the same route as Lee’s army during its invasion of Pennsylvania. In West Virginia, visit HARPERS FERRY NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK, where John Brown and his “army of liberation” staged their fateful raid on a U.S. Arsenal. Continue across Maryland to GETTYSBURG NATIONAL MILITARY PARK. Then, tour Gettysburg and hear your Local Guide vividly recount the Battle of 1863. This evening, enjoy a Colonial-style candlelight dinner at the elegant DOBBIN HOUSE TAVERN, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Next, travel through Lancaster County past Amish farmlands to VALLEY FORGE NATIONAL HISTORIC PARK for a tour to see the camp where Washington and his troops endured the harsh winter of 1777–1778. See the Memorial Arch, the Grand Parade, and the Washington Memorial Chapel. Continue to Philadelphia, where your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner on the historic Moshulu ship. Launched in 1904, she has had a long and exciting career on the seas and is now considered one of Philadelphia’s best restaurants.
Morning sightseeing focuses on the important buildings of the “Birthplace of the Nation.” Major attractions at INDEPENDENCE NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK include the LIBERTY BELL and INDEPENDENCE HALL. Continue to the Philadelphia Airport for guests with homebound flights (please schedule flights from the Philadelphia Airport after 1:30 pm). For passengers who would like to return to Washington DC, the motorcoach transfers to the Capital Hilton at no additional cost.

This morning, travel north to Connecticut for Nook Farm, Hartford’s tightly knit historical community of intellectuals, leaders, and reformers. Visit the HARRIET BEECHER STOWE CENTER, the modest home of the author who penned Uncle Tom’s Cabin and became known as “the little lady who started the Civil War.” Then, visit MARK TWAIN’S HOUSE & MUSEUM, for a guided tour of the writer’s opulent 19-room home.
This morning, continue north into Massachusetts to Lexington, the “birthplace of America” and the location of the first battle of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775. Visit Battle Green and the Minuteman Statue, a life size representation of a colonial farmer with musket, and a tribute to the Lexington militia. Then on to historic BUCKMAN TAVERN, used as the headquarters to the militia during the American Revolution. Continue onto Concord visiting the Old North Bridge, site of the infamous “shot heard round the world” before enjoying lunch at the historic CONCORD COLONIAL INN. After lunch, continue to Boston for a free evening to explore this vibrant historic city. Perhaps enjoy one of the many popular restaurants in the North End.

Continue north to the old port town of Portland for an orientation tour followed by a SPECIAL PRESENTATION to learn about a day in the life of Cape Neddick’sNubble Lighthouse “keeper.” Your evening is free to enjoy Portland’s thriving culinary scene.
This morning, enjoy a morning at leisure before traveling to Freeport for free time to enjoy the Casco Bay Village, home to L.L. Bean for more than a century. Then, travel west into New Hampshire, visiting a picturesque covered bridge before continuing further into the White Mountains for your overnight stay at the historic Eagle Mountain House.
After breakfast, travel to Montpelier, the capital of Vermont, for an orientation tour and free time. Then, visit a MAPLE SYRUP FARM, where you’ll learn the art of making maple syrup and enjoy a local treat. Continue west through the Green Mountains, stopping in beautiful Stowe with time to explore the quintessential New England village. Then, onto Essex where you will spend the next two nights at a countryside resort.

Today, continue to the shores of Lake Champlain and board a FERRY for the scenic crossing into New York. Travel through the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains to the village of Lake Placid, site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. This afternoon is free to explore the village. Why not visit the Olympic Center or enjoy your lakeside resort?
This morning, visit the OLYMPIC JUMPING COMPLEX to experience the ski jumper’s perspective high above the Adirondack Mountains. Later, travel south into the Berkshires for a visit to the NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM and enjoy the artist’s works including his iconic Saturday Evening Post covers depicting small-town Americana.
After breakfast, travel along the Hudson River to VANDERBILT MANSION HISTORIC SITE for a private guided tour. The gilded age mansion, known as “Hyde Park” was home to Frederick William Vanderbilt and his family for nearly fifty years. After lunch, travel to WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY for a tour with a Local Guide. Learn the story of West Point, its role in the Revolution, stories of the graduates that shaped our nation, and the cadet experience. Tonight, your Tour Director hosts a special farewell dinner.
After breakfast, time for independent exploration of Tarrytown, home to the fabled Sleepy Hollow Cemetery made famous by Washington Irving’s short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Continue to New Jersey and on to Newark International Airport for guests who have homebound flights. Please schedule flights after 4 pm. For guests with flights out of Kennedy or LaGuardia International Airports, transfers are not included and it is suggested to book flights after 6 pm. The tour ends at the Sheraton New York Times Square in the late afternoon for those guests with extra nights.
